Lufthansa Aviation Training is the flight-training subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, and its ab-initio pilot school operates under the brand European Flight Academy (EFA). It trains cadets to become airline pilots for Lufthansa Group airlines across sites in Germany, Switzerland and the USA.
European Flight Academy pools the Lufthansa Group flight schools and trains under EASA to an EASA ATPL. Its programme structure has students complete theory and exams in Germany, a first visual flight phase in Phoenix/Goodyear, Arizona and the instrument phase in Rostock-Laage, Germany. Training sites include Bremen, Rostock-Laage and (previously) Frankfurt in Germany, Grenchen and Zurich in Switzerland, and Goodyear, Arizona in the USA. The academy operates a standardized fleet of more than 50 modern training aircraft, including Diamond DA40 and DA42 aircraft for the multi-engine piston phase. Graduates gain access to Lufthansa Group's internal pilot job market.
